Five Fast Ways To Cut Out Clutter In Each Room Of Your House

Rob Marchese • February 22, 2019

Getting rid of things isn’t always easy. Whether it’s because of sentimental value, lack of time to declutter, or being overwhelmed and unsure of where to start, there are lots of obstacles to overcome when it comes to  tackling the clutter that builds up  in our homes, and ultimately our lives. It’s not impossible to tame though!

Take a look at these focused suggestions for quickly getting rid of some of the clutter that has been accumulating in the various rooms of your home.

Kitchen

One of the easiest ways to clear out some clutter, and double check that you’re not consuming food items that have gone bad, is to purge your fridge, spice cabinet and pantry of items that have expired.

Bathroom

Similar to what you did in the kitchen, go through your medicine cabinet and properly dispose of any expired medications. Since that shouldn’t’t take too long to do, why not do the same with your makeup and other beauty products. Toss the stuff that you’ve had forever, the things you don’t like or use, and any gifts from well intentioned friends and family members that have just been taking up valuable bathroom storage space.

Living Room

Often a hub of activity, and an area where people spend a lot of their time, the living room can quickly go from a room of calm, to a room of chaos. Start by eradicating mayhem that is connected with your entertainment system. Untangle your cords, label them, put away any DVDs, video games, consoles or controllers, and gather all of your remote controls into a central area.

Dining Room

Let’s talk about the problem that is the dining room table for a second. Flat surfaces, like a dining room table, have a tendency to get covered with stuff. From mail, to lunchboxes and backpacks, to unfinished craft projects, the dining room table fills up quickly. Start there when you’re decluttering your dining area. Focus on clearing off your dining room table entirely, and then adding back placemats and ONE centerpiece, if any!

Bedroom

Waking up to a bedroom that is clutter-free is a great feeling. It starts your day off in a calm atmosphere, and expedites the process of getting ready, and finding everything you need, in the morning. A good place to begin with when decluttering your bedroom is your dresser drawers and closet, basically anywhere that you store clothing.

Get to work pulling out articles of clothing that do not fit you anymore, don’t fit your style anymore, or that have tears, holes, stains that won’t come out, etc. Then separate those into two piles, clothing to be donated and clothing to be trashed. This should be dependent upon the quality and current condition of the clothes.

Another great way to keep your closet from bursting at the seams with clothing and clutter, is to store your clothing seasonally. On-demand storage companies like  Zippboxx  will drop off bins or wardrobe boxes to your door, give you some time to fill them up, load them up and transport them over to storage, and then deliver them back to you upon request.
