Cut Out The Clutter & Improve Your Life

Rob Marchese • January 8, 2019

Life can get a bit cluttered, especially when it comes to all of the different things that we keep in our homes. Possessions, while they can be fun and make you feel a certain way at first, do not provide meaning, joy or purpose to someone’s life. It’s what you do with your life, and how you treat others, that provides that fulfillment, not the tangible things that you surround yourself with.

With that in mind, here are some reasons why you should start living more simply, tackle the clutter and revamp your living space into something much more livable!

IRL Clutter = Brain Clutter
Finding your focus can be hard enough as is, don’t make it even harder by surrounding yourself with clutter! With so much chaos and excess around you, your ability to process information decreases.

Clutter Slows You Down
There’s nothing worse than heading out the door in the morning to go to work or school and not being able to find that one thing you need, like your keys or a specific textbook. Being more organized with your things, and having less things, will make it easier on you when you need to find them.

Clutter Overloads Your Senses
Stop burning your senses out with clutter overload! When you do this your stress levels go up and your creativity goes down. Declutter to balance out that overstimulation.

Clutter Makes You Eat Less Healthy
If you already have issues with snacking on junk food, then you do not want to live or work in a cluttered environment. When you’re in a chaotic space, you have to deal with a low self-control mindset which leads to unhealthy behaviors like stress eating and bad food decision-making.

Clutter Means More Cleaning
No one likes making their chore list longer or more labor intensive, so why clutter up the spaces around you that you need to clean! When your shelves are filled up with belongings it’s more difficult to to dust, and when your closet is overflowing with clothing it’s hard to keep it tidy. Keep things simple and simplify your cleaning regime instantly.

Now that you’re aware that clutter has negative effects, it’s time to come up with a plan to live a more minimalist lifestyle! Round up all of the things that you do not use or need anymore and donate those items, trash the things you cannot donate and find space somewhere else for the things you want to keep, but don’t necessarily need at the ready in your home.
