Pro Tips For Making The Moving Process Less Painful

Moving is extremely exciting, but also totally overwhelming. Unless you’re someone who owns practically nothing, moving is going to be an arduous process. With so much to do and time limits to abide by, moving can be a massive undertaking. Don’t let this discourage you though! There are plenty of ways to plan ahead, pack strategically and make moving easier on yourself.

Avoid moving day pandemonium with these tips for making the process less painful and more organized!

Start early

One of the worst things you can do when moving is save everything for the last minute. You do not want to be scrambling deconstructing furniture and packing up all of your clothing as your time constraint is coming to a close. Stay on task and organized by creating a moving to-do list. Begin packing stuff away as soon as you possibly can. This will make the process run smoother!

Get organized

Planning ahead and being organized go a long way when you’re in the middle of moving. As a general rule of thumb, you should purchase more packing supplies than you think you might need. You don’t want to be running out to the store every time you run out of tape, bubble wrap or boxes. If you don’t use some of the supplies, hold onto the receipt because you can always return them.

Create a clear staging area, preferably a flat surface, where you can spread out your supplies and the items that you are packing up. Labels are your friend too! Note what room and the general contents of each box so you know exactly where to put that box, and what’s inside of that box, when you get to your new place. This will make the unpacking process much easier.

Pack smart

After you have all of your packing supplies on hand, it’s time to pack as strategically as possible. Do not simply start packing up all of your belongings. Begin by packing up things you rarely use, and save the items you use frequently for last. This will save you time searching through boxes you already packed for particular items you need.

Utilize smaller boxes! Small boxes are easier to carry and weightier items can be packed inside of them with less of a chance of breaking the box. Distribute the weight within each box evenly. This will also aid in making the box less prone to breaking, create balance and keep the person who is lifting the box from being taken by surprise.

Fill in any empty spaces in your boxes with packing paper, bubble wrap, t-shirts or towels. The empty spaces make your items vulnerable to hitting into one another and causing potential damage. Filling in the spaces helps with balance as well!

It’s also a good idea to pack an essentials box or bag. Since moving can be chaotic and things can go missing or unseen already packed away, this container of essentials will have everything you need to get through the first night or two at your new house or apartment. The essentials should include things like: toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, required medications, pajamas, day clothing, phone charger, and pet supplies if you have any pets.

Ask for help

Moving residences is a process, but with some help it can be a less painful one. While you could ask friends and family members to lend a hand during the process, it’s typically a better idea to look to the professionals for assistance. Instead of attempting to convince people you know to help out, renting and driving a truck that’s difficult to navigate the streets in, and breaking your back moving everything you own, let the experts at Zippboxx take care of everything for you!
