Off Slope Storage: Storing Your Skis During The Off-Season

It’s that sad time of year once again for skiing enthusiasts, the end of another delightful season. With the slopes closing down for the season, now’s the time to start preparing your skis for their temporary retirement. This includes a good cleaning, some preservation measures and the appropriate storage solution. Skiing equipment doesn’t come cheap either, so it’s incredibly important to store your gear properly while it’s not in use. By storing your skis correctly, you’re ensuring that you’ll have them to use for many years to come, and that they’ll be ready to go once the first snowfall occurs next ski season.

A Good Cleaning
The very first thing you’re going to want to do with your skis at the end of the season is give them a thorough cleaning. Rinse and wipe down your skis, then let them air dry the rest of the way. After they have dried, remove the rust from the edges of your skis with a Gummy Stone. Then scrape off any old wax so that you’re left with a clean slate for what comes next.

Preservation Measures
Now it’s time to re-wax! A thick coat of wax will help to seal and protect your skis while they’re being stored in the off-season. This wax aids with keeping rust at bay and keeping the bases from drying out.

Proper Storage
Do not store your skis outdoors, and do not keep them in the ski bag you used this season. Moisture that has remained in the bag can rust the edges of your skis, which you just worked so hard to get rid of! A dry, cool place not in direct sunlight is the best environment to store your skis in. Your skis should be stored laying flat, or hung up. If hung up, they should not be strapped together too tightly, that could warp their shape.
