Apartment Move-Out Cleaning List

The most popular time of year for Americans to move from one residence to another is between the months of May and September. This time of year is customarily the busiest time for moving because kids are out of school making it easier on families to find the time to pack up and relocate, college students and graduates are either moving back home or into a new place, and the weather is ideal for moving because there is no threat of wintry conditions to worry about. Those getting ready to move do need to worry about thoroughly cleaning their soon-to-be old apartment though.

Upon signing a lease for a new apartment, there are typically two large payments that need to be made. One is an advance rent payment (usually the first and last month’s rent) and the other is the security deposit. Landlords collect security deposits for financial and property protection, and the deposit it is what comes into play when cleaning your apartment for the last time. For example, if any appliances need to be replaced, holes in the wall need to be fixed, toilets need to be scrubbed, or unpaid rent fees need to be resolved, landlords can deduct from what you receive back from your security deposit.
