What’s The Biggest Hassle With Self-Storage Spaces?

Rob Marchese • May 10, 2019

Self-storage is not a new concept. Evidence from Ancient China depicts public storage space available even then, and in the 1960s the first modern self-storage facility was erected in Texas. Once a service utilized mostly by those in transitional states, e.g. dealing with a divorce, death or in the process of moving, nowadays the storage industry is a $38 billion dollar (annual industry revenue) business that has become invaluable to demographics of all kinds.

Storage facilities have undoubtedly become an extension of the American home. With how much stuff individuals accumulate throughout their lifetime, storage facilities now act as a safe place for keeping overflow from residential homes, metropolitan apartments, and even as warehousing for businesses. Nationwide, the self-storage enterprise has extended to approximately 50,000 locations.

While self-storage is clearly useful, is it actually convenient? We daresay, “No, it’s not.”

Self-storage facilities provide sought out space to their users, but other than the extra space, not much else is provided by these facilities. That gap in nonexistent additional amenities is where on demand storage, sometimes referred to as valet storage or full service storage, pops into play.

On demand companies are a known, and often expected, part of modern business. Whether it’s fresh food delivered to your door, a driver coming to pick you up within minutes of tapping on your smartphone screen, or finding someone last minute to walk your dog for you, the on demand economy is everywhere. And that fact holds true for the storage sector as well.

On demand storage companies provide storage without the hassle by providing services that self-storage facilities do not. Pickup and delivery of items that need to go into storage is a big one. With on demand storage, you never again have to rent a truck, navigate the busy streets in that foreign vehicle, or hire movers to lend a hand. That is all done for you with on demand storage.

There are other perks as well! From packing services to junk removal, handling of donations to shipping services, home staging clean outs to file management, the list goes on.

Then of course there’s the technology aspect. Not only do on demand storage companies provide convenient physical services, they also provide useful digital ones like an online inventory of your items currently in storage. With  Zippboxx , your stored items are barcoded and photographed so that with just a few clicks you can schedule a delivery of specific belongings (or everything) you have in storage. Or arrange another pickup of stuff to go into storage!

To circle back to the original question, “What’s the biggest hassle with self-storage spaces?” we have to say, everything. There is no convenience in a business model like self-storage where you have to do all of the work from beginning to end. On demand storage that handles all of your storage needs for you, now that’s hassle-free storage.
