The Best & Worst Things About Living In New York City

People say that if you can make it in New York City, you can make it anywhere. But do you really want to make it in NYC? And more importantly, do you want to live in New York City? Take a look below at the various pros and cons of living in NYC and decide for yourself whether or not living in New York, New York is the right choice for you.

The Best Things

There’s Always Something To Do!
They don’t call it, “The City That Never Sleeps” for nothing! Whether it’s very early in the morning, or extremely late at night, there is always something to do and going on in NYC.

The Diversity!
New York City is a huge melting pot of assorted ethnicities, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Just walking down a few city blocks makes that fact acutely apparent.

Tons Of Culture!
From the museums, to the art galleries, to the plays both on broadway and off, there’s no lack of culture in “The Big Apple.” No matter what your interests are, you’ll find something that peaks them or opens your eyes up to new interests.

The Convenience!
No matter what it is that you need, you can get it in New York City and the chances are that it’s not far away. Not to mention, a lot of the time you don’t even need to get it for yourself! Hungry? Get food delivered to your door! Need to do laundry? Drop it off at the cleaners and pick it up later! Need to go to a different part of the city? The subway runs all night so go whenever you want to!

Every Type Of Food!
Relating back to the previously started pro of diversity, there is every single type of food available to eat in New York City. You’ll enjoy some of the best pizza you’ve ever tasted, ethnic dishes from all over the globe, and of course food cart grub when you need something quick.

The Worst Things

It’s Expensive!
The rent is high in NYC which makes living there difficult. The rent for a two bedroom apartment in Manhattan on average is just under $4,000 per month. Buying a home is no better either with asking prices commonly reaching into seven figures.

Lots Of Traffic!
From gridlock to construction, getting in, around and out of the city is never easy. Not to mention finding parking! Finding parking can be near impossible unless you want to get gifted a hefty ticket, towed or pay an exuberant amount of money to use one of the many parking garages.

It’s Noisy!
When you live in, “The City That Never Sleeps,” you shouldn’t be surprised that one of the reasons that it never sleeps is because it’s never truly quiet. From people yelling outside, to cars honking on the street, to jackhammers waking you up at ungodly hours, get ready to invest in a good pair of ear plugs.

Unreliable Public Transit!
Supposedly New York City has one of the best public transit systems, but that’s hard to believe with the endless amount of construction, rerouting, accidents and other obstacles that face those who rely on public transportation to get around and get to work on a regular basis.

Lack Of Space!
Not only is there a lack of space on the sidewalks where you’re walking, on the streets where you’re driving, within the square footage of your apartment, but when it comes to storage space too! Extra storage space is basically nonexistent when you live in New York City.

Like most things in life, you’ve gotta take the good with the bad and that rings true with living in NYC too. Rest assured that no matter what you think of living in New York City, there’s no other place like it in the world.
